Southend Pier head guided walk 

This walk at 3 miles will take approx 2 hours. 
Southend pier, at a mile and a third long, is the longest pleasure pier in the world.

It is possible when the correct weather and tidal conditions align to walk out close to the Pierhead. This is a very interesting and enjoyable walk that very few people do. There are often interesting creatures to be found and the pier structure becomes a photographers dream when you are underneath it. Don’t attempt this walk unless you are with someone who understands the tides, how the tide comes in here from a direction that you wouldn’t expect, and how the wind can mean the tides comes in early. 

Important - whatever you wear on your feet and lower legs will get wet, and some of the ground underfoot is very rough so footwear with a decent sole is needed. We recommend that you wear shorts and old trainers or walking boots. We will possibly have to wade through water knee deep.  Dress sensibly for the weather. There is no shelter from the wind or the sun once you are away from the shore. Bring a windproof jacket and consider wearing sunscreen and a sun hat.
